The Petzl Croll is made to be used during caving, mountaineering and professional rescue situations. The Croll is an ascender that uses a camming device to allow one-way travel off a fixed rope. When using the Croll, precision and a high degree of experience is a must. Climbing, caving and mountaineering are high-risk pursuits and necessitate the need for training and understanding of the gear involved.

  • Petzl chest harness
  • Locking carabiner
  • 8.9mm to 12mm dynamic climbing rope

Instructions

    • 1

      Attach the Croll to your chest harness using the locking carabiner. Slide the open carabiner through the 'biner hole on the Croll and then close the carabiner gate, turn the locking mechanism all the way to the right, then turn one quarter turn to the left.

      Tie the rope to the carabiner using a double figure-eight knot.

      Thread the working end of the fixed rope through the cam mechanism on the Croll.

      Begin your ascent of the pitch or rock face. Slide the Croll up along the rope. Apply back pressure on the Croll to lock the cam, move further up the rope and then slide the Croll another length up the rope.

Tips & Warnings

  • Climbing, caving and mountaineering are dangerous sports. Do not attempt high angle climbs without proper training.
