How to Change the Open ID Name of My Blog

Blogging is one way to keep your friends and family updated on how you are and what you've been up to. It's also a great way to keep your customers informed on your company's progress as well as sales and other tidbits of information your readers might be interested in. However, sometimes blogs need a face-lift, a new name, better keywords or perhaps you've hired a new writer.

Instructions

  1. Changing the Open ID Name or Title of your Blog

    • 1

Open your Internet browser and log in to Blogger. Click on the "Settings" link under the blog you'd like to edit. Some writers keep multiple blogs, so be sure to select the right one. A window will open with various fields including title, description and global settings.

    • 2

Highlight the title you currently have written in the "Title" field and replace it with the new one. If any of the details of your blog have changed (what you're planning to write about), be sure to change the blog description as well. This is what people will see when they locate your blog on Google or any other search engine.

    • 3

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "Save Settings." You can now go about posting new entries with your new name without losing visitors. Also, if you have an image as your header, make sure the title on your header matches the title of your site. Otherwise some visitors may become confused.

Changing the Open ID Name of your Poster

    • 4

Log in to Blogger and click on "Edit Profile" next to the icon of the poster you wish to edit. Scroll down to the middle of the page where it says "Display Name."

    • 5

Type in the desired name in the field provided. You can leave the real first and last names blank if you like, as they're not what readers see when you reply to their comments. On this page, you can also change the poster's icon as well as the email your notifications are sent to.

    • 6

Change any additional settings you like (email, location, interests) and scroll to the bottom of the page. Click on "Save Profile" to save these changes and any others you might make in the future.

Tips & Warnings

  • Changing your Open ID as well as your blog title will not change the website address. So there's no need to worry about losing readers because of this. You can change your Open ID information as often as you like without losing an audience you've worked so hard to achieve.

  • Changing the title and description of your site may remove it from Google as well as other search engines. You'll have to wait until the spider bots crawl your site for it to reappear. You can help this along by submitting your blog to sites such as blog catalogue, which offer back links.
