How to Make Blank Labels

How to Make Blank Labels thumbnail
Mailing labels give your mail a more polished, professional look.

Labels add a polished, professional look to any mailing. And they come in handy around the holidays when a massive mailing list seems to only grow as the holidays get closer. Labels also make quick and easy tags for favors or gifts. Blank labels provide the most options, of course, and they are easy to create with software on a PC or Mac. Software program will let you add graphics, photos or or initials while allowing you to leave the text section blank.

Instructions

  1. Using Microsoft Word

    • 1

Open Microsoft Word. Go to Tools>Letters and Mailing>Envelopes and Labels. Select the "Labels" tab.

    • 2

Enter any text, initials or effect you want on the labels and select "Full Page" of the same label.

    • 3

Select "Options." Choose the right printer type and the brand of your labels, such as Avery. Select the right product number, which can be found labeled on the outside of the box. Or if you are creating an entirely new label with different specifications, select "New Label" from the bottom row.

    • 4

Click "OK" to apply your choices. Back in the "Envelopes and Labels" window, select "New Document" from the right vertical menu and a new document with any information you typed in earlier will be created.

    • 5

Load the blank label paper into the printer tray and print your labels. If you need more than one page, just increase the number of copies in the "Print" window before you press "OK" to print.

    Using iWork Pages

    • 6

Download a label template in a DOC format from a graphics website or you can go to "Cards & Invitations" in iWork Pages. The DOC format will load in either Microsoft Word or iWork Pages.

    • 7

Select the label template you want to work with and load it into "Pages."

    • 8

Customize the template with any text, initials, photos or graphics you'd like.

    • 9

Make a whole page of identical labels by designing one label to your taste, then copy the finished label to the rest of the page.

    • 10

      Preview your project and print.

Using Avery Design and Print Online

    • 11

Go to Avery Design and Print Online (see resources) and register for free with Avery.

    • 12

Select a category and then the product using the product number or product description.

    • 13

Select an editing option and any text or initials you want to add. You only need to design one label to produce an entire, identical sheet of labels.

    • 14

Add or delete any graphics or upload a photo. Edit the font to your liking, if applicable. Switch to the enhanced editing option to rotate a graphic, adjust the size or add shapes.

    • 15

Preview your labels, save and print your project.

Tips & Warnings

  • Print a test page on a blank sheet of regular paper, then place it behind an adhesive sheet paper. Hold it up to the light to make sure everything lines up.

  • When working with a template you downloaded from Microsoft Office, just go to Tools>Letter and Mailings>Envelopes and Labels to edit the information on the template before printing.

  • Purchase labels that are compatible to your printer, such as ink jet or laser.
