How to Add Coolant to a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero

The 2000 Oldsmobile Alero uses a mixture of Dex-Cool antifreeze combined with an equal amount of clean water in the cooling system. You should check the level in the coolant tank regularly to ensure that you are protecting your engine from overheating. Add fluid to the tank any time the coolant levels are below the recommended amount. If your car is losing fluid more frequently than four times a year, you should ask a mechanic to locate the system leak.

Things You'll Need

• Dex-Cool antifreeze
• Clean water

Instructions

1. Park the Alero on a flat surface. Open the hood of the car. Make sure that the engine is cool.

2. Locate the coolant reservoir on the passenger side of the engine near the rear toward the car's windshield. Unscrew the cap on top of the reservoir tank.

3. Pour a 50-50 mixture of anti-freeze and water into the reservoir tank until the level is even with the "Full Cold" line on the tank.

4. Replace the cover and turn it until it is tight. Close the hood.

Tips & Warnings

• Never remove the overflow cap when the system is hot. Always wait for the engine to cool completely before attempting to add coolant.
