How to Make a Baby Bootie Diaper Cake
Diaper cakes are increasing in popularity because they make creative decorations at baby showers and offer useful items the parents-to-be will need, particularly diapers. Diaper cakes can come in traditional, three-tiered styles or be shaped into something different, such as a large baby bootie. Create one baby bootie cake or a set of two baby booties if you want to give more or if the parents are expecting twins. - Diapers (1 package or more)
- Rubber bands
- Baby items (optional)
- Ribbon
- Scissors
- Cardboard
- Pencil
- Craft knife
- Cellophane/wrapping (optional)

Roll the diapers with any decorations facing inward. Secure the roll with a rubber band. Repeat this process until you have enough diapers for the size of diaper cake you want. One pack of size 1 diapers will make a fairly substantial diaper cake.

Use a large baby item, such as a rolled baby towel or a novelty bottle-shaped container stuffed with goodies, as the base of your baby bootie. It's best if the item is tall enough to go through two layers of diapers, which adds stability to the cake. Arrange the bottom layer of diapers around the anchor item in a large oval pattern.

Secure the oval-shaped mass of diapers with a ribbon. Tie a bow if you desire, and cut off any excess ribbon.

Place the oval-shaped diaper cake on your cardboard and trace the outline with a pencil. Remove any excess cardboard with a craft knife. This will provide a stable base for the cake, which will make transporting it easier.

Arrange the rest of the rolled diapers around the tall anchor piece in a circle on one side of the oval. Tie a ribbon around the top layer, and the diapers should take on the shape of a baby's bootie.

Add any embellishments, such as extra curling ribbon around the edges to look like frosting or on the top front of the bootie to look like laces. Tie small items to the cake, such as pacifiers or toys.

Wrap the entire cake in cellophane or another wrapping if you're using the diaper cake as a gift or want to make it easier to transport.

Tips & Warnings
Consider using a combination of size 1, 2 and 3 diapers for a larger diaper cake if you want to give the parents a head start on some of the things you'll need.
Use colorful ribbon or ribbon with designs on it if you want the cake to follow a certain decorative color scheme or theme, such as jungle animals for a jungle-themed baby shower.
