Tune the car stereo to an FM channel that's low down in the FM band---below 90.1.

Many Garmin GPS (global positioning system) satellite navigation receivers include an FM radio transmitter that allows you to play the Garmin's audio through your car stereo. The audio is broadcast from the Garmin to the car's FM radio where it is redistributed through the car's speakers. All of the audio functions of the Garmin GPS can be delivered this way, including spoken street names, Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity and media.

Instructions

    • 1

Select "Volume" and then "FM Trans," and then "Enable FM Transmitter" from the Menu page to manually set the FM transmitter that's built into the Garmin GPS.

    • 2

Tune the car stereo to an FM channel that's low down in the FM band (below 90.1), has a lot of static and no programming broadcasting. Look for an unused frequency and listen for steady, even static. Any frequency that has fluctuations in static won't work right.

    • 3

Touch the plus and minus icon buttons on the Garmin GPS to select the same frequency to which the car radio is tuned.

    • 4

Increase the car stereo volume. Audio from the Garmin will be output through the car stereo.

Tips & Warnings

  • Change the frequency that you are using if, as you travel, you encounter radio broadcasts on the frequency you were using. If you encounter environmental interference, try changing the frequency. For safety reasons don't make these changes while you are driving.
