RAM lets you operate multiple applications and tasks at the same time.

Computer RAM (Random Access Memory) is the memory that your computer uses to operate utilities, programs and processes. Different programs use different amounts of RAM, and more RAM is required if you are using multiple programs. The more RAM you have, the more tasks you can perform simultaneously without your computer slowing down. Whether you want to switch out your RAM, check to make sure it is working correctly or simply see how much you have, you can view your computer's RAM by viewing the System Properties window from the Control Panel.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start," then click "Control Panel."

    • 2

Click "Switch to Classic View" at the top of the window to change the way in which the icons are displayed. This changes the window to display more icons, which can make it easier to locate a specific option.

    • 3

Double click the "System" icon. A new window will appear with a summary of your computer's information.

    • 4

Locate the computer's hardware information in the bottom right corner of the window. The processor will be displayed, as well as the RAM that is currently installed in your computer in terms of GB.

Tips & Warnings

  • To access this window faster, you can simply right-click on "My Computer" and choose "Properties." If for any reason the window does not display your computer's information, make sure that the "General" tab is selected.
