Initially developed as a personal computer-based software application for making Voice over Internet Protocol calls, Skype has since released an application which enables users of the iPhone to make calls for free to other Skype users. The process of making a call using Skype Beta for the iPhone is simple and only requires that you have a Skype account.

Instructions

      Tap the "App Store" icon on your iPhone's screen. Tap the "Search" icon in the bottom menu. Type "Skype" in the search text-field and tap the official Skype Beta release app from the list. On the following screen, tap "Install," tap "Buy," type your password into the corresponding text-field and tap "OK."

      Tap the Skype app icon on the iPhone display after the application has finished downloading. Submit your Skype Name and password into the corresponding text-fields.

      Tap the "Contacts" icon in the bottom menu and tap the "+" icon in the top right corner. Tap the "Search Skype Directory" button and type the name, the Skype Name or the email address of the person you would like to call for free using Skype Beta on the iPhone. Tap the person's name from the list to add him to your contact directory.

      Tap the "Call" icon in the bottom menu. Tap the blue address button in the text-field and select the name of the person you just added to your contact directory. Press the green "Call" button to make the call.
