Instructions
-
-
1
Detach and remove any baseboards in the room, if applicable, using a hammer and pry bar.
-
2
Cut the tongue-side from enough Pergo oak laminate flooring planks for the first full row, using a table saw or circular saw with a guide. These will be the starting planks for the first row.
-
-
3
Trim the tongue-end off one of the boards cut in Step 2 to use as the first-row starter board, then lay the trimmed end against the beginning wall in the left-hand corner of the room. Space the board away from the wall at the side and left end with 1/4-inch flooring spacers.
-
4
Place the next full plank against the end of the first plank, align the edges, then use a tapping block and hammer to snap the ends together. Insert spacers along the wall edge of the plank.
-
5
Repeat Step 4 to complete the starter row of flooring planks, inserting spacers along the wall edge as needed.
-
6
Cut a standard flooring plank to 24 inches long, using a circular saw or miter saw to begin the next row of planks. Hold the tongued edge of the plank at a slight angle next to the grooved edge of the starting plank in the first row, then press the plank downward to snap the two pieces together. Use a tapping block and hammer to slide the end of the plank against a spacer on the end.
-
7
Position the tongued edge of a standard plank at a slight angle against the end of the plank installed in Step 6, then press downward to snap the two planks together. Use a tapping block and hammer to tap the outside edge of the plank to snap its tongue into the first-row planks.
-
8
Repeat Step 7 to complete the planks in the row, cutting the end piece, as needed, to fit. Leave 1/4-inch spacing at the end of each row of planks.
-
9
Begin the next row with a full plank and repeat the assembly steps, snapping the end of each plank into the previous plank, then using a tapping block and hammer to snap the pieces into the previous row. Alternate the lengths of each row's starting plank to stagger the end joints across the floor. Maintain 1/4-inch spacing from all the perimeter walls.
-
10
Cut the necessary width of the final row of flooring planks as necessary, using a table saw or circular saw with guide, maintaining 1/4-inch spacing along the wall. A tapping block cannot be used to fit the sides of the final row, and a pull bar will be required to snap the final row of planks into the previous row.
-
11
Reinstall the baseboard, if applicable. The baseboards should sit firmly down on the surface of the Pergo laminate flooring.
