How to Search for a Plastic Surgeon

Choosing the right plastic surgeon takes research.

Taking the time to choose the right plastic surgeon for your procedure is important. Your trust in the abilities of your plastic surgeon is an especially concerning issue. Finding out if a plastic surgeon is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) is important when making your decision. A plastic surgeon who is a member of the ASPS has at least six years training and experience in surgery and has been certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgeons.

Instructions

1. Visit the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) home page.

2. Click on "Patients and Consumers." Click on "Find an ASPS Member Surgeon." Click on "Show Advanced Search."

3. Enter your zip code. Check the procedure you are having performed. Click "Search."

4. Choose a plastic surgeon. View the surgeon's website (if available). Call the surgeon's office for a consultation.

5. Continue seeing several plastic surgeons for consultations until you find a plastic surgeon whose work you are happy with.
