How to Find the Date of a Web Page

Once a web page has been updated or altered, much of the original information, including the publication date, may become lost and irretrievable from the website itself. Some search engines keep archives, however, which can tell you when a website or page was first published.

Instructions

    • 1

      Go to the Google website.

    • 2

Type "inurl:" in the search box (without the quotation marks).

    • 3

Type or copy and paste the full URL of the web page directly after the colon, without leaving a space. Example: inurl:nameofwebsite.com/page.html

    • 4

Click "Search" or hit "Return" to get the results.

    • 5

Copy and paste "&as_qdr=y15" (without the quotation marks) onto the end of the URL in your browser's address bar.

    • 6

Hit "Return." The next search result will include the date the web page was first published.
