How to How to Use the Garmin POI Loader
The Garmin GPS unit has the ability to have customized points of interest (POI) uploaded to the unit. To do this you will need to install the Garmin POI Loader software on your computer system. Once this has been completed, you can then transfer various types of POI files onto the GPS device. However, you will first need to find the POI files to transfer onto your Garmin GPS.

Install POI Loader

Go to the Garmin download web page for the POI Loader (see Resources). Click the "Download" link and select where to save the file, such as the desktop.

Double-click the set-up file to install the program on your system.

Right-click on the file and select "Delete" from the context menu. This will delete the file from your desktop. Alternatively, you may place the file in the Recycle Bin.
Locate POI Files for the Garmin

Go to the Garmin Custom POI Sources web page (see Resources).

Scroll down the page to see a list of POI sources that are sorted alphabetically by the provider name.

Click the link to go to the website for the POI source, such as POI Factory. Select a POI that you want to load onto your Garmin.

Click the link under "POI Packages." Save the file to your desktop.

Connect the Garmin to your computer with the USB connector cable. Double-click the icon for the POI Loader, if it does not open automatically.

Select your Garmin device from the list provided. Select the "Install" option to load a new POI onto the Garmin.

Navigate to the saved location for the POI file. Click the "Open" button to load the POI file.

Click the "Next"' button to go through the remaining screens and wait while the POI file is transferred onto the Garmin.

You will need to register for the POI Factory website to be able to download a POI file.
