Instructions

  1. Remove GM Ciera Windshield Wiper Arms

    • 1

Turn on the vehicle ignition and turn on the windshield wipers. Turn off the ignition when the wipers are midway across the windshield so that they remain in this position.

    • 2

Mark the position of the wiper arms with the tire marking crayon or the masking tape. To use the masking tape, lay a piece directly under the wiper arm on the hood just above the wiper drive shaft. Use a pen to make a line on the tape where the arm is situated. These marks will ensure that the arm is returned to an identical position on the drive shaft.

    • 3

Raise the wiper arms so that they extend straight out from the windshield.

    • 4

Remove the windshield washer hoses from the wiper arms.

    • 5

Use the GM J-8966 tool to pry the wiper arm up from the wiper drive shaft.

Re-install the Wiper Arms on Your GM Ciera

    • 6

Use the mark you made with the crayon or masking tape to align the wiper arm in the correct position on the wiper drive shaft.

    • 7

Push the wiper arm down onto the wiper drive shaft and push in the arm retaining latch.

    • 8

Turn on the vehicle ignition and turn on the windshield wipers so they return to the normal position at the base of the windshield.

Tips & Warnings

  • Place a cloth between the engine hood surface and the GM J-8966 tool when you pry the wiper arm off the shaft to prevent scratching your paint.

  • Lining up the wiper arm in the proper position is critical in preventing damage to the wiper drive mechanism when you start the wipers again.
