How to Remove Sugar Spills From a Glass Cooktop
Glass cooktops are ordinarily easy to clean. But when you get a difficult spill like a sugar spill on the surface, it needs special attention. Boiled-over sugar turns hard and crusty if it's allowed to cool. It adheres like glue to the smooth glass surface. Sugar spills can cause permanent damage to the glass if they're not removed promptly and correctly. By using a few common household tools, you can remove a sugar spill and preserve the condition of your glass top. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Oven mitt
- Razor scraper
- Paper towels
- Glass top cleaner
- Scrub sponge or clean cloth

Put an oven mitt on your hand to protect it from the heat. Turn off the heat to the element where the spill is located and take the hot pan off the stove, advises GE Appliances.

Hold a razor scraper to the side of the sugar spill. Tilt it to the side at about a 45-degree angle. Apply a little pressure to the blade as you carefully push the spill off the hot area to a cool area on the glass top surface.

Wipe up the sugar spill with a paper towel. Use more towels, if necessary.

Clean up the residue after the cook top surface has completely cooled. Shake the cleaner bottle well. Apply a few drops to the area where the sugar spill is located. Rub the spill and remove it with a paper towel, scrub sponge or clean cloth.

Wipe up the glass top cleaner and buff the area to a shine with a paper towel.

Tips & Warnings
Don't use the glass top again until the sugar spill has been completely cleaned up, according to GE Appliances.
A dull, nicked or otherwise damaged razor scraper can cause harm to the glass cook top. Make sure the blade you use is sharp and in good condition.
Never use abrasives or rough scrub pads on a glass top as they can scratch the surface.
