How to Engage the Blade on a Gravely Model L Mower

Gravely Model L mowers were produced from the mid 1940s through the 1970s. The Model L was designed to be a compact yet powerful machine capable of performing a variety tasks around the home or farm, as evident by the wide range of attachments available. From snow blowers to scrapers, sickle bars and mowers, the Model L was designed to take on many jobs that other mowers and even small tractors could not. The front-mounted mower deck was very popular and features easily accessible controls for operation. Does this Spark an idea?

Place the forward/reverse and high/low speed operating levers on the right handle in the center or neutral position. Push the attachment clutch control located on the left handlebar completely forward.

Engage the blade of the Model L by pushing the outside, or forward/reverse, lever on the right handle slightly forward.
