How to Sync a TiVo Remote With a DirecTV TiVo

Remote control units that are available from TiVo, and used with a DirecTV receiver, are able to control additional devices or components, such as a television. This will enable you to use only the TiVo remote to control the television's volume and to turn the power on or off. Syncing a TiVo remote with your DirecTV TiVo will require you to program the remote through the satellite receiver.

Instructions

1. Press the "Power" button on your television, or on the remote control, to turn it on.

2. Press the "DirecTV" button on the TiVo remote control to display the "Remote Setup" screen.

3. Press the "Down" arrow button to highlight the device that you want to control. This will include the option for TV (power, volume, mute), TV (input) and A/V stereo system.

4. Press the "Select" button.

5. Press the "Down" arrow again to highlight the brand of television that you want to control and press the "Select" button. This will display a list of input codes for the brand of television.

6. Press the "TV Power" button and one of the "DirecTV" buttons on the TiVo remote. Press and hold the buttons for at least five seconds. A red indicator light will then come on.

7. Enter the first 4-digit code on the screen by pressing the number keys on the remote control. The red light indicator will blink after the fourth digit is entered.

8. Point the remote at the television and press the "Power" button. If the TV turns off, then the remote has been programmed successfully.

Tips & Warnings

• Type "0999" for the input code to perform a manual code search. Press the "Channel Up" button every three seconds until the TV turns off.
