How to Change the Bullets on the New Microsoft PowerPoint

Microsoft PowerPoint, the presentation-creation component of the Microsoft Office Suite, facilitates compiling your information onto electronic slides. PowerPoint's default way to display your data is through bullet points. As you type phrases or sentences and press the "Enter" button on the keyboard, PowerPoint automatically sets up your slides with preconfigured bullets. You're not tied to these bullets, though. Instead, change them at any time to reflect your company's preferred style or to simply alter the slide design.

Instructions

    • 1

Open PowerPoint. A new slide presentation is started for you on the screen with a single slide. To change bullets on an existing slide show, click the "File" tab, click "Open," navigate to the slide to change and double-click the name of the file. The PowerPoint opens on the screen, with the first slide in the main pane.

    • 2

Click the text box with the bullets to change. To change bullets on a slide not already on the screen, scroll through the list on the left side of the screen and double-click a slide to open it in the main pane.

    • 3

Highlight all of the bulleted lines to change on the slide. Click the "Home" tab at the top of the screen. Click the small bullet icon drop-down arrow, located in the "Paragraph" section of the ribbon/toolbar under the tab.

Select one of the other bullet options, such as check marks or hollow squares, to instantly change the bullet appearance.

    • 5

Click the "Bullets and Numbering" option in the drop-down to open a window with the same name. The "Bulleted" tab is already defaulted. Change the size of the bullets by nudging the "Size" box up or down. Change the color of the bullets by clicking the "Color" drop-down menu and clicking one of the small colored boxes.

Add your own pictures as a bullet by clicking the "Picture" button, clicking the "Import" button, browsing to the picture and double-clicking it. When you return to the "Picture Bullet" window, your picture is the top left choice and already selected. Click the "OK" button to close the "Picture Bullet" window and you're brought back to your slide, with custom picture bullets.
