How to Replace a Passenger Side Mirror on a 2005 Suburban

The passenger mirror on the 2005 Chevy Suburban is housed inside of a large ABS plastic shell called the mirror assembly. Inside the mirror assembly is a plastic post with a small ball on the tip of it. The post holds the mirror inside the assembly because the mirror has a small socket on the back that presses onto the ball on the post. This is called a ball and socket. When replacing the mirror, you must separate the ball and socket.

Instructions

    • 1

Push the left side of the Suburban's passenger mirror lens into the assembly with your hand. Due to the design of the mirror assembly, when you push on the left side of the mirror lens it causes the right side of the mirror to sit slightly proud of the assembly.

    • 2

Squeeze a flat-head screwdriver approximately 3 inches behind the mirror lens. Push back on the handle of the screwdriver (toward the front of the suburban) to pop the mirror lens off the ball.

    • 3

Place the new mirror lens into the assembly. Due to the tight fit of the mirror lens, the assembly forces the ball and socket to line up.

    • 4

Push on the center of the mirror lens until you feel the ball and socket pop together.
