Finding out Windows XP passwords can be done using Ophcrack, a Linux-based program. Ophcrack accesses the password files on your Windows computer and displays them to you, essentially hacking your own computer to force the Windows system to give you the passwords you require.

Go to the Ophcrack website using a second computer. Click on the "Download" button.

Open your CD writing software and insert your blank CD. Write the file you downloaded in Step 1 to the CD as an Image by clicking on "File" and "New Project" or "New CD" depending on your software.

Put the newly created CD into the PC which you wish to recover the passwords for and boot it up.

Wait for the Ophcrack install screen to appear. If Windows loads normally reboot the computer again and wait for an instruction to appear to enter the "BIOS" or "Startup" menu. Go into this menu and tell the computer to boot from the CD drive.

Click "Install" to begin the installation of the Ophcrack software. Wait for the software to install.

Wait for Ophcrack to open. When it does the usernames that are registered on the Windows computer will appear in the left hand column. The passwords will appear in the right hand column.

Click on the "Install Tables" button and then the "Enable Tables" button to ready the software to crack your passwords.

Click on "Crack" to begin the cracking process. If a password box appears blank the software is yet to recover the password. If the word "Empty" appears then there is no password. Otherwise the text of the password will appear. Write down the passwords you wish to use.

Remove the Ophcrack disk from the CD drive and reboot the computer.
