How to Restore Tanned Furs
Tanned furs are often used for decoration, such as mounting on a wall, but they are sometimes made into coats, jackets or other fur items. When the tanned fur is damaged, torn or otherwise requires restoration, there are some actions you can take to improve the appearance of your fur, or perhaps even restore it to its original condition.

1
Sew up any tears, rips or holes in the fur. Sewing methods will differ based on where the tear or rip is located. Usually, the sides of the tear are pulled together and sewn along the inside.
-
2
Clean the fur. The cleaning methods will differ based on the type of fur. In most cases, taking it to a fur specialist for cleaning is the best option. If cleaning at home, avoid alcohol-based cleaning solutions or try steam cleaning for best results.

3
Allow the fur to dry in a well ventilated location. Whether the fur is wet from cleaning or from getting rained or snowed on, it needs ventilation to dry and avoid smelling.
-
4
Place the fur in a location where it will have plenty of air.
-
5
Ensure that it will not rub against anything. It will cause the fur to wear away.
-
6
Take care of it. Once sewn up and cleaned, the remaining restoration is proper care.
