How to Locate the iPhoto Library

By default, the iPhoto library on a Mac computer is in the "Pictures" folder of the "Home" folder for the active user account. However, the library may be in a different location for a variety of reasons. When this happens, iPhoto will prompt you with a message to locate the library on the computer or create a new library when you try to open iPhoto.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the Finder and press the "Command" and "F" keys on the keyboard.

    • 2

Type the file name of an image stored in your iPhoto library. If you do not know a specific filename, you can just enter a common file type used in your iPhoto library, such as "jpg."

    • 3

Click on the image in the search results. The folder location for the file appears at the bottom of the Finder window. You can also reveal it by pressing "Command" and "I" to see the info screen for the file. The path is listed next to "Where." Within the path, you will see the "iPhoto" library. Make note of the location.
