How to Block Your Number When Making a Phone Call

Caller identification lets you see who is calling before you pick up the phone. Most phone providers charge a fee for this service. When a person calls, you can see their number and name appear on the display screen. The Federal Communications Commission has rules in place that protect the privacy of callers. They require all telephone companies to allow callers to block their number when making a call. These block procedures must be uniform and free for all telephone providers. Blocking your number before you make a call is very simple to do.
Prior to making a call, pick up your phone and wait for the dial tone.
Dial the star key on the number pad followed by the number 67. This is the code to block your name and number from appearing on the other person's caller id.
Dial the phone number of the person you are calling immediately after you punch in the block code. The call will proceed as normal. When you are done talking, simply hang up. Note that you will have to dial *67 each time before a call.
Tips
Blocking your name and number for a phone call to a toll-free number may not prevent full blockage because the entity you are calling pays for the call.
