How to Add a Username in Cisco ASA 5505

You can add a username in Step 3 of the Cisco ASDM-IDM Launcher's setup wizard.

The ASA 5505 is the 2006 model of Cisco's Adaptive Security Appliance. The device is used for network security, private networking and network address translation. To add a username to the Cisco ASA 5505, you must launch and run the device's software setup wizard and then create a username when prompted to do so by the program.

• Cisco ASDM-IDM Launcher
• Device IP address

Instructions

1. Insert the setup software into your computer's CD drive and launch the software on your computer. You will see a box that reads "Cisco ASDM-IDM Launcher," which is where you will input information.

2. Type your IP address in the box next to the words "Device IP Address/Name." You will see two additional boxes: one for username and one for password. Leave both of those boxes blank and click the "OK" button. The main ASDM window will then open on your screen, from which you can configure a username.

3. Click on the word "Wizards" at the top left on the screen and select "SSL VPN Wizard" from the drop-down menu.

4. Click on the box next to the words "Cisco SSL VPN Client" and click on the "Next" button.

5. Chose a connection name if you want enable remote usage. Type this name into the box next to the words "Provide the connection name and interface that SSL VPN users connect to." Then select the interface from the drop-down menu under the connection name you have chosen. Remote users will use to this interface to establish a connection. What you enter in this step varies greatly depending on your own network needs and desire for remote connection.

6. Click on the "Next" button so that you can move to Step 3 of the setup wizard and add a username.

7. Click on the button that reads "Authenticate using the local user database."

8. Enter a new username and password in the boxes that ask for that information and then click on the "Add" button.

9. Click on the "Next" button to finish the setup wizard. When you have finished the program, click "Finish." You will now be able to use your new username and password.
