Directions for Ameristep Doghouse Blinds

The Ameristep Company produces a line of hunting and wildlife observation blinds called Doghouse Blinds. These blinds utilize spring metal frame rods covered by camouflage cloth material. The tension created by the rods holds the blind erect. The biggest challenge with the Ameristep Doghouse blind usually is returning it to its case. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Unfolding the Blind

    • 1

Unfold the Doghouse Blind by removing it from its carrying case and holding it at arm's length. The spring steel causes the blind to unfold into a flat shape. Unfold the flat blind and set up with the bottom side on the ground.

    • 2

Place the blind in position for the hunting outing. Place the fiber poles and brace rods not incorporated into the frame in the proper position in the pockets on the inside roof of the blind. Anchor the blind in place by driving stakes through loops on the bottom of the blind into the ground.

    • 3

Add any loose brush or plants at the location to the sides of the blind. This breaks up the outline of the blind and makes it less likely for animals to notice.

    Folding the Blind

    • 4

Remove the fiber poles, ground stakes and any brush or plants attached to the blind.

    • 5

Turn the blind so it rests on a side and push one of the corners into the center of the blind, giving you an L- shaped configuration. Fold this down so the blind lays flat.

    • 6

Grasp the blind with both hands at the top and roll it away from you into a U-shape. Twist or rotate the blind as you roll it until the two steel bands closest to your body overlap. Push the top section under the bottom part of the blind being held and fold this portion onto the bottom segment of the blind. Place the blind in its carrying case.

Tips & Warnings

  • Store the blind in its packaging only if it is dry. If the blind was wet or damp when folded in the field, unpack it at home and allow it to dry out.

  • Ameristep blinds are flame resistant but are not considered fireproof. Avoid open flames in the blind including candles, cooking stoves or smoking.
