The Effingham County Sanitation Department works with residents of Effingham County to encourage recycling as a simple way to protect the environment. Recycling keeps materials that do not disintegrate easily, such as plastic, or at all, such as metal, out of landfills. There is no curbside recycling. If you live in the county, you can take your materials to a central recycling center and they will be collected with other materials and later reused. Does this Spark an idea?

      Place your recyclable materials, such as paper, plastic, metals and rubber (such as tires) in containers separate from your regular trash. Mark your containers with the name of the recyclable material to further keep each item organized.

      Collect your recyclable materials and take them to the Effingham County Solid Waste and Recycling Center. The center is open from 8 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. every Wednesday through Saturday.

      Pay the recycling fee for your recyclables when you drop them off. Metals, cardboards and batteries are free. The center charges a fee to recycle tires, based on the size and type of tire you're recycling, ranging from $2 to $12. All other recyclable materials cost $.08 per pound or $160 per ton to recycle.
