How to Turn a DSL Modem Into a WAP

A "WAP" is a wireless access point. Even if your computer is connected to your DSL modem via an Ethernet cable, as long as your computer has a wireless adapter installed in it, you can still turn the modem into a wireless access point using the Windows Network and Sharing Center. This is done by creating an ad-hoc network, which is a type of computer-to-computer wireless network.

Instructions

    • 1

      Click "Start."

    • 2

      Click "Control Panel."

    • 3

      Click "Network and Sharing Center."

    • 4

Click "Set up a new connection."

    • 5

Select "Ad-Hoc" and click "Next." Type a name and (optional) password for your ad-hoc network and click "Finish" to turn your DSL modem into a wireless access point.
