You can find the square footage of a triangle by following a simple formula.

The square footage of a triangle is the amount of space in terms of feet that is contained within the perimeter of a triangle. Another way of stating this concept is the "area" of the triangle. You may be required to find the area of a triangle in a middle or high school math class, or even in a college math class. You also may need to be able to perform this calculation if you are measuring a space in preparation for building, remodeling or design.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the base -- or bottom leg -- of the triangle.

    • 2

Measure the height of the triangle. This is the distance from the base to the top point.

    • 3

Multiply the base times the height. For instance, if the base is 4 feet long and the height is 5 feet, multiply four times five to get 20.

    • 4

Divide your answer from step three by two to get the square footage. In this example, you would divide 20 by two to get a square footage of 10.
