How to Color Hair Roots
Many of us, both men and women, love to change our looks, and that includes our hair colors. The problem is that hair color sometimes fades, or we have hair that grows quickly. While fast-growing hair is a sign of good nutrition and health, it can be hard on our beauty-budget because it requires us to frequently touch up our roots. Since many of us don't know how to do this, we end up paying high salon costs. With simple instructions, we can save time and money by doing it ourselves. Does this Spark an idea?

Coloring Roots

1
Decide what color you're going to use on your roots. Most people color their roots a shade that matches their hair, but sometimes people prefer a funkier look in which they color their roots a contrasting shade. Purchase your chosen color and get out the instructions.

Read the instructions. Some hair dyes come in a bottle or tube immediately ready for application. Others come in two separate bottles or packages with directions for you to mix them together before applying to your hair. Follow whatever the instructions say about mixing the formula.

3
Place a towel around your neck and shoulders. This is to protect your clothing from dripping hair dye and stains.
-
4
Put on plastic gloves. They are usually provided with your hair dye.
-
5
Use a comb or brush to detangle your hair. Part your hair down the center or on the side, depending on how you prefer to wear it.
-
6
Use the applicator bottle tip to directly squirt hair dye onto the roots on the top of your head. You may use your fingers, but many hair dyes provide a small brush. Use the small brush to gently brush the dye across the discolored roots, being careful not to sop too much on at a time so that it drips onto your scalp.
-
7
Continue on to your hairline. Using a headband to hold your hair back may disturb the color sitting on your roots at the top of your head, so use sectioning clips to clip back the hair. Use the small brush, or your fingers, to gentle apply the dye to your roots at the hair. Focus on the roots above your forehead and to the sides of your head, like your temples and around your ears.
-
8
Allow the hair dye to sit on your roots for as long as the instructions say for that particular hair dye. Continue to follow the instructions on when to rinse out and whether to use only water or shampoo and conditioner.

Tips & Warnings
Carefully follow your hair dye's instructions about doing patch-tests on your skin to check for allergies. Most instructions say to do so 48 hours beforehand, but read your brand's instructions for details.
