Most people who have worked in an office environment can understand the functional importance of the office copier. If the Canon ImageRunner 1600 stops working, there are various troubleshooting methods available.

      Check for a paper jam. Remove paper cassette tray number one, two and three located at the bottom of the copier. Firmly grab each cassette tray and pull it outside of the copier. Check behind each tray to see if there is any crumpled paper lodged between the tray and the back side of the copier. Remove the paper and replace the paper cassette tray.

      Check to see if the copier needs more toner. If the printing quality of the copier's documents seems low, look shadowy or indistinct, there may be a need to replace the toner. The Canon ImageRunner 1600 takes the Canon GPR-8 Black Toner (Item Code: 6836A003AA). This toner cartridge can be purchased on the Canon website. Open the toner hatch located in the front of the copier above the paper cassette trays and remove the existing toner cartridge. Replace the toner by inserting it in the same position and location of the old toner cartridge.

      Ensure the copier has the latest software update. Visit www.usa.canon.com using a computer with a network connection to the copier, and choose "Office Equipment" at the top of the page. Click on each of the current links in the following sequence "B/W Image RUNNER Copiers," "ImageRUNNER 1600/2000/2010f" and "ImageRUNNER 1600." Each of these links is located within the scroll box within the center of the page. Select "Drivers and Software" and choose the latest software update available for the copier. To determine the latest software, check for the latest date under the date column on top of the screen. Read the software license agreement and select "I Agree" to begin the software installation onto your computer. The new software will update your computer's correspondence with the copier.

      If your issues cannot be resolved, contact the service department directly. At the bottom of the website page, select "Contact Us" and a screen will appear entitled "Canon USA Inc. Products." Select "Office Equipment." Fill out the attached form describing your issue, or call the telephone number available to the right of the screen. A customer support representative will contact you in regards to your inquiry or assist you by telephone.
