How to Hide a Static IP Address

Always protect your computer's IP address when you're online.

For any computer that contains a static Internet Protocol (IP) address, that IP address will never change, as it is permanently assigned to that computer. Whenever you visit a website directly, the IP address is visible. If you have any concerns about Internet privacy, you may not want the IP address of your computer to be available to other people. Since you can't change your computer's static IP address, you can hide it instead.

Instructions

Use a proxy server to hide your IP address. You can configure a browser to transmit Web traffic via a proxy server. You can also surf through Web proxy servers, which are simply websites that permit you to access other websites through it. On the proxy site, enter the address of the site you want to visit. The request is sent to the website via the Web proxy; the proxy receives a response and sends it back to you.

Use software to hide your IP address from the websites you visit. IP-hiding programs such as Maxthon Browser create proxy services with numberless proxy servers and make available IP security by tunneling Internet activity through proxy servers. The software will support HTTP, HTTPS, SOCKS4 and SOCKS5 chains. To ensure security, IP-hiding software lets you change proxy services per use and per connection. Also, if the current service is slow, the software will automatically change or stop the service, conclude and get rid of bad servers, and identify proxies to be used in chains.

Apply advanced IP-hiding software, such as Privoxy, to surf proxy chains using a multitude of different proxy servers in the chain to hide IP addresses on the fly. Using proxy software with browsers and applications allows you to anonymously download files, send emails and visit websites. Proxy software also allows you to filter via different locations, giving the impression that you are using a computer in a different country. You can change IP addresses manually, and the software will disable Java applets and scripts to diminish risk and keep your computer information secure and private.
