How to Uninstall Leftover Software

One complaint about buying a new computer from a retail store is the amount of programs that come preinstalled. These programs take up hard drive space and will clutter up your Start menu. Uninstalling the software left over from the retail outlet can be done through the Windows "Uninstall" application found in the Control Panel.

Instructions

    • 1

      Click the "Start" menu.

    • 2

      Select the "Control Panel" icon.

    • 3

Select the "Add or Remove Programs" icon under the "Programs" listing if using Windows XP. If using Windows Vista or 7, select "Uninstall a Program" under the "Programs" listing.

    • 4

Locate the software you wish to uninstall. Highlight the name of the program by clicking on it. Click the "Uninstall" button.

    • 5

Follow the prompts provided to uninstall the software. Repeat these steps for any additional software that must be uninstalled.
