Instructions for the Chia Cat Grass Planter
The Chia Cat Grass Planter includes seeds for a mix of wheatgrasses and oats. Besides being a treat for indoor cats to eat, fresh green grass "provides cats with dietary fiber to act as a laxative or an emetic (in large quantities) to relieve hairballs," according to Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine's website, "Preventing Feline Behavior Problems." It also adds fiber to a cat's diet. Offer grass to your cat in an area that's easy to clean, in case hairballs show up on the floor soon after. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
-
-
1
Pour the growing mix into the planter, saving out about two spoonfuls.
-
2
Scatter the seeds on top of the mix. Spread the other two spoonfuls of the mix over them.
-
-
3
Pour 1/4 cup of water into the planter.
-
4
Lay a piece of plastic wrap over the planter so it will hold in moisture while still allowing some air to circulate. Don't seal it tightly. After about three days, you should see green sprouts starting to show.
-
5
Check the planter each day and when the grass is about 1 inch tall, take off the plastic. Set the planter where it will receive one hour or more of sunlight each day. If the grass begins to wilt and the growing mix feels dry, water it just enough to moisten it. Avoid over watering.
-
6
Start offering the grass to your cat regularly when the grass has grown about 4 inches tall, though you can allow the cat to eat a little before that.
