How to Mount a Sirius Antenna
A Sirius antenna allows your car to pick up the XM signal transmitted to its satellite radio. The antenna doesn't have to be mounted by a professional as the installation is a quick, straightforward process. Once the satellite is installed and the service is switched on, car owners can enjoy a wide range of music and talk radio. Sirius has three satellites that transmit to car antennas at any given time. If your car has a flat top, which means that a gate opens from the back, like an SUV or a minivan, the antenna can be shortened by two inches, if you choose.

1
Cut two inches off the antenna if your car has a flat top. You can use a knife. Once the antenna is the proper length, cut the included adhesive strip to match the length of the antenna and firmly press it onto the antenna tail.
-
2
Clean the area where you'll apply the antenna with the included alcohol wipe. Mark the spot where you'll place the antenna module. Remove the adhesive liner from the antenna tail, then press the tail into its designated spot ahead of the module. You should apply at least 12 psi of pressure for at least 15 seconds.
On sedans, SUVs, minivans and five-door vehicles, place the antenna module on the center point of the roof, at least four inches from the back window or the gap between the roof and tail gate. On convertibles, place the module on the center point of the trunk, at least six inches from the back window. On trucks, position the module at the center point of the roof, at least four inches from the rear of the cab.

Pry up the rubber molding around your back window, gate or trunk with a flat-tip dental pick or cotter-pin remover. Slide the cables under the rubber molding, then press it down over them, taking care not to put kinks in the cables. Run the wire down either the same side or different sides. In a van or SUV, guide the cable under the rubber molding on the interior of the trunk.
-
4
Guide the cable into the trunk by tucking it through the trunk liner or through any existing cable channels to the receiver located in the trunk. On convertibles, route the cable directly into the trunk, attaching it to the rim with telephone clips and cutting a small hole in the rubber molding to hold it. In trucks, guide the cable through the brake light cavity directly to the receiver. You can tuck the wires under the interior trim or carpeting to keep them out of the way. You can also use duct tape to keep the wires out of the way, so they don't interfere with your storage capacity.
-
5
Connect the wires into the receiver and let the adhesive dry for 72 hours. Avoid washing your car or touching the antenna or tail during this time.
