How to Manually Uninstall DirectX

DirectX is a software application that allows your computer to run video games and play videos. If the software gets corrupted, you can uninstall it much like you do with other software solutions. When you uninstall it manually, you need to delete its folder in the Windows registry, a process that needs to be handled with care since making a mistake in the registry can cause major problems.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Start" button, choose "Control Panel" and then click "Programs." Click "Programs and Features," find DirectX in the list and highlight it. Click the "Uninstall" button and then click the "Yes" button to confirm. Press the "Finish" button.

    • 2

Press your "Windows" key and your "R" key on your keyboard. Type "regedit" in the field and press your "Enter" key.

    • 3

Navigate to the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DirectX" folder in the left column.

    • 4

Right-click on the "DirectX" folder. Scroll down and click "Delete." Close the window and restart your computer.
