The battery in your 2000 Chevrolet Impala is a 78 series battery that has a side post. The battery is a chemical-energy storage receptacle that will release electricity when it is needed for an electrical device, such as a starter motor. When the engine is not running or the alternator cannot supply enough electricity, the battery supports all the electrical demands. The battery supplies all the electricity to operate the headlights radio, turn signals, and all the other accessories. The battery will hold 12.6 volts to be fully charged.

Extract the battery hold-down that goes across the battery. Disconnect the hose behind the battery and remember where it goes.

    • 4

Remove the battery from the battery box; this is a tight fit. You may have to have a battery carrier to pull it out of the box. Keep the old battery and return it for a core charge refund.

    • 5

Clean the battery cable ends with a wire brush and clean the battery tray with water and wipe dry.

    • 6

Replace the battery into the tray by holding it above the box, slowly lowering the battery in the tight spot. You may have to work it back and forward to get it all the way down.
