How to Remove a Mark on a Windshield
Windshields experience a lot of abuse and regular cleaning and maintenance is necessary to keep them in good condition. Marks and spots on a windshield are not only annoying and unsightly they can also damage the glass if they are not addressed in a prompt manner. The first step is to thoroughly clean the windshield with a good quality glass cleaner. Avoid ammonia-based products. They run the risk of damaging tinted glass and car paint. An alcohol-based glass cleaner is gentler and will clean the windshield just as well. Once the windshield is clean, then you can address the stubborn marks and spots that the glass cleaner was unable to remove.

1
Purchase a good quality window cleaner at an auto parts store.
-
2
Spray the windshield with a generous amount of glass cleaner. Start cleaning the center with the lint-free towel. Use a gentle amount of pressure in order to remove windshield wiper streaks, bug debris and other types of dirt and debris.
-
-
3
Polish the windshield with the microfiber towel. Start in the center and polish the windshield using up and down motions.
-
4
Inspect the windshield for marks and spots that the window cleaner and microfiber towel were unable to remove. These spots are usually caused by hard water that has calcium, iron, lime and other minerals. The chemicals form a strong adhesive bond to the glass of the windshield. If the marks and spots stay on the windshield they can etch and damage the glass.

5
Mix up a solution of water and white vinegar. Vinegar is a very mild acid that dissolves the alkaline-based water deposits and it won't damage the glass, car trim, paint or dashboard. Make a mixture of half water and half vinegar.
-
6
Apply the vinegar solution to the water spots and marks with a soft clean cloth. Scrub the marks until they disappear. If the mark has etched into the glass, it is necessary to repair the damage with a low abrasive polish.
