How to Identify a 1962 Chrysler 300

Chrysler 300 series cars are highly sought-after collector cars. These cars, designated the 300 by Chrysler to denote their status as the first production cars with 300 horsepower, were first introduced in 1955. Production numbers of these cars were very low. Unscrupulous sellers sometimes try to pass off other Chrysler models as a 300 series car; by checking the VIN number, you can quickly determine if a car is a genuine 1962 300 series vehicle.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the drivers door. The Vehicle Identification Plate is on the door jamb.

    • 2

Locate the VIN number on the Vehicle Identification Plate. This is a long number consisting of numbers and letters. This code gives information about the car, including when it was built, where it was built, original paint color, and options.

    • 3

Compare the first four numbers of the VIN to this series: 8423. All 1962 Chrysler 300 series cars have a VIN number beginning with these numbers. If the first four numbers are not 8423, it is not a 1962 Chrysler 300.
