Buttons on the Compaq monitor are used to reset and adjust display color.

Configuring a Compaq monitor display has not changed much over the two decades that the monitors have been manufactured. Although models will vary from the larger, older cathode ray tube styles to the newer plasma screen model, the on-board menu button has remained the way that a user interacts with monitor settings. A few quick pushes of the correct monitor buttons and the user can reset and adjust the viewing experience without the need of a CD or other software tool.

Look at the front of the Compaq monitor and locate the "Menu" button. Some models may have an image that identifies the button. Older models may identify the button with the word "Select." The image button will look like a sheet of paper with a heading and three or four horizontal lines below the heading that represent writing. Press the button and navigate through the menu listing to the "Picture" option by using the "+" and "-" buttons on the monitor or the arrow keys on the keyboard.

Choose the "Color" setting to manually adjust the color on the Compaq computer. Color is adjustable by changing one or all of the red, blue or green color choices. This adjustment capability is ideal if the monitor is showing one color more than the other, as in cases where skin tone is too red or too blue. Add more of one color using the "+" symbol and less using the "-" symbol.

Choose the "Default" option on the main menu to reset the monitor colors to their factory settings. Using the "Default" option will reset all of the settings, including the monitor colors. There is not a single option that resets factory settings only for monitor color; the option is resetting all settings or no settings.
