1
Decide on your style. The most popular motorcycle jacket is leather, but there are other varieties, such as the heavy duty material DuPont Cordura, if you choose to go against the grain.
-
2
Evaluate the comfort and fit. Due to your positioning while riding, you will want extra room in the back, sleeves and shoulders of the jacket.
-
-
3
Decide if you want a removable lining. This is ideal if you plan to ride in most seasons and weather systems, as you will want to leave it in for colder temperatures but remove it in warmer temperatures.
-
4
Check for pockets. You will want at least one interior pocket on the jacket to hold your wallet and any other personal items you may be carrying. Having zippers or buttons on outer pockets is a plus as well.
-
5
Evaluate closures, especially the main zipper. The main zipper should have a flap of material to cover it so the wind does not blow through the zipper teeth.
-
6
Check for extra padding, particularly in the elbows, back and shoulders of the jacket.
-
7
Check to see if the jacket has reflective material or bright colors on the jacket. This will make you more visible on the road.
-
8
Consider choosing a jacket with ventilation zippers, typically found on the arm pits, for riding in warm weather.
