How Do I Change a Belt on a Maytag PYE2300AYW Dryer?

If your Maytag PVE2300 doesn't spin, it usually means that the belt is broken and needs to be changed. Calling a repairman is costly. You can do the job on your own, and save some money. The task of stringing the new belt onto the dryer is a little tricky, but once you know the proper placement, it is a project that the average homeowner can accomplish.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Dryer belt
  • Unplug the dryer. Trip the breaker or turn out the fuse as an extra precaution.

  • Remove the screws holding on the front panel. You will find the screws at the bottom of the top panel. The panel should swing out and release.

  • Remove the screws holding on the tumbler front and remove the drum support bulkhead. There are two screws located on each side of the dryer front facing you.

  • Remove the belt if it is still on the motor and idler pulleys. Simply reach under the tumbler and slide the belt off.

  • Place the belt over the top of the tumbler. Keep the smooth side of the belt against the tumbler.

  • Keep the belt about 1.5 in. in front of the back screws. These screws hold the tumbler baffles in place.

  • Loop the belt over the top of the motor pulley. Keep your left arm close to the blower on the left side of the dryer. Use your right hand to loop the dryer belt. Make sure that the grooved side of the belt is against the pulley.

  • Loop the belt under the motor pulley with your left hand, then with your right hand; begin to position the belt over the idler pulley. Work the belt so it goes around the idler pulley by pushing the pulley up and to the left. To finish pushing the belt onto the idler pulley, use your left hand to pull the belt so it fits over the bottom of the idler pulley.

  • Make sure that the belt is positioned correctly. It should be between the idler puller and the belt guide. Make sure that the belt is in the middle of the idler pulley.

  • Push the tumbler so it goes around twice in a clockwise direction. This aligns the belt. Put the dryer front back in place
