How to Get Past the Log on Screen on a Dell XP Professional thumbnail
Getting past the login screen on a Dell with XP requires you to know the previously set password.

A Dell computer with Windows XP Professional might be set with a password to start up the computer. This is also called a login screen, and is set for security reasons. If your Dell is set with a login screen, you have to know how to get past it so you can get on the computer.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your Dell computer and wait for the Windows XP Professional login screen to come up. When it does, type in the password that you selected when you created your account on the computer. If there is more that one user set up, you can first choose the user and then type in the password. If you set up several accounts, try them all because one might be set up without a password and you won't need to know it.

    • 2

Click "cancel" if you get this option when prompted for a password on the Dell XP login Screen. If you have this option, it means that the password only protects certain areas of the computer. If you hit "Cancel" and you are able to get past the screen, you might not be able to access all of the information, but you'll be able to get on the computer.

Contact Dell customer service if you get a login page on your computer and you have never set a password. You can also contact them if you bought a computer second hand and have to bypass the login page to get onto it, although since most computers are not considered transferable, they might not be able to help you.
