How to Upgrade Video Memory on a Laptop
All laptops come with a standard amount of memory, or RAM. The price of the laptop increases as the given amount of RAM increases in your computer. If you engage in computer activities that involve intense graphics, you may notice that your computer begins to operate more slowly, flicker or otherwise malfunction. The answer to this problem is a memory upgrade, which will help your computer handle the load by operating at a higher speed while supporting the graphics your videos demand.

1
Turn your laptop upside down, so that the bottom is facing you. Unplug all power cords and make sure the computer is in the off position.
-
2
Ground yourself to avoid ruining the computer's memory with static electricity that could be built up in your body. Do this by touching something in the room that is made of metal and in contact with the ground.

3
Remove the battery. Unlock the locks or unscrew the screws holding the battery in place. How to remove the battery depends on the design of your laptop. Slide the battery out gently.
-
4
Locate the memory compartment. If your motherboard is positioned so that the battery slot is closest to you, the memory slots likely will be directly above it, next to the hard drive.
-
5
Remove the compartment cover with a screwdriver. Locate the two metal clips on the side of the memory slot. Adjust the clips and gently remove the memory.
-
6
Line up the notch on the memory with the notch in the memory slot. Insert the memory at a 45-degree angle to prevent damaging the delicate edges. Make sure the clips snap back into place the same way they held the old memory. Reapply the compartment panel that protects the memory and slide the battery back into place.
