How to use a Garmin Automotive GPS

Instructions

1. Turn on the GPS. A Garmin GPS on switch is typically near the top of the unit. The specific switch will differ depending on the model, but it typically requires moving the switch to one side to turn it on.

2. Press OK when prompted. Garmin GPS systems have a user agreement that comes up when the unit is turned on. Pressing OK will take the system to the main menu.

3. Select a preferred option. There are a few available features. Selecting "Map" will open the map of your location without setting up or calling out any directions from the GPS. While driving, the map will show the upcoming streets. The next option is getting directions.

4. Type in a destination. There are two ways to obtain directions: searching for a specific building or typing in a specific address. If the destination is a store or similar item, select the option to search for a store and type in the store name. The GPS will give a list of the nearest stores with the same name. If the destination is a specific address, select the address button and type in the address as prompted. The GPS will ask for the state, the city, the number and then the street name.

5. Follow the directions as they are given. The GPS will call out directions, giving at least 0.2 miles warning before a turn.
