How to Get Proof of a High School Diploma
A high school diploma is a certificate awarded to students who have successfully completed their high school education. Obtaining proof of your high school diploma may be required for acceptance in to college or for applying to certain jobs. A lost high school diploma could pose a potential problem, but proof of a high school diploma does not rely solely on having the diploma in hand.

1
Call the high school from which you graduated and inquire about obtaining a copy of your transcript. Depending on the school, they may direct you to the Inactive Records office of the local school district. Call the local school district's main office if the school you graduated from no longer exists.

2
Request a certified copy of your transcript. If applying for college, you will need to have an official transcript sent directly to the college upon their request. Due to federal education privacy laws, you may be required to request a transcript in writing, or sign a consent and release form. Some school districts may also charge a fee for duplicate transcripts.

Request a duplicate diploma from the district office if needed. This is typically just for sentimental reasons, businesses and schools only require a transcript. Be prepared to pay a duplicate diploma fee. It usually takes between six to eight weeks for the duplicate to be processed.

Tips & Warnings
Different schools have different policies on replacement diplomas and transcripts. Some can provide photocopies of all diplomas, others issue new diplomas, signed by the current principal and superintendent and others may only issue certified transcripts.
A high school diploma is not considered official proof of high school graduation. A certified transcript is considered official proof of graduation.
