How to Recover a Hard Reset for Zune

The Zune is a portable MP3 player produced by Microsoft. If your Zune is encountering issues, a hard reset is a good way of either isolating the problem or getting rid of it completely. However, during a hard reset, your Zune erases all of the content stored on it. After performing a hard reset, you are able to recover all of the content that you have purchased in the Zune marketplace using the Restore feature.

      Connect your Zune to your computer using the included cable. Launch the Zune Marketplace software.

      Click "Sign In" and enter your Windows Live ID and password. Click the "Sign In" button.

      Click "Settings" and then "Account." Click "Purchase History" to restore items that you have purchased or "Rental History" to restore rental or subscription content.

      Click "Download" to restore individual pieces of content or "Restore All" to download all of your missing content.

      View the replaced content on your Zune to ensure that it has been restored successfully.

Tips & Warnings

  • Songs, TV shows, movies and videos can all be restored after a hard reset.

  • Backup your content before performing a hard reset in order to ensure that nothing is lost.
