The key to a great hairstyle is to tailor it to your needs, whether it be curly or straight. Despite curly hair being slightly harder to cut than straight hair, that doesn't mean curly-haired women can't have stylish layers.

1. Avoid cutting hair into blunt layers, which means straight across the hair. This will increase the appearance of bulk in the hair, leaving the style with a boxy look.

2. Incorporate layers throughout the hair at an angle. This will allow the hair to have a slightly tapered look, reducing bulk while adding dimension to the style.

3. Reduce the width of the style by using thinning shears to reduce excess volume from the style. Thinning shears trim away hair slightly as you run the shears down the shaft of the hair, allowing you to often keep as much length in the style as you want while reducing volume.

4. Add subtle layers throughout the hair with the thinning shears and keep hair a uniform length to avoid it looking like too many layers once the hair begins to grow back.

5. Finish your hairstyle by blow-drying it with a diffuser attachment. The attachment will dry hair and keep it from frizzing, allowing your curls to stay smooth.
