Testing your T1 Internet connection is a way to learn if the speed is accurate.

Testing a costly T1 connection is a way to make sure you get your money's worth in Internet speed. Testing entails downloading and uploading packets of information to measure the connection's transfer rate. Several online sites offer these tests for free.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the SpeakEasy website and select the location closest to you. Be sure scripts are enabled, otherwise the test will not show up. The speed test will display its progress and give you a final value for download and upload speeds.

    • 2

Visit the Bandwidth website and try their speed test. Functionally, it is similar to the previous site, but testing with various tools helps confirm readings.

    • 3

Go to the T1 Shopper site and browse the vast list of speed test tools, broken down by location. Use this list if you want a greater number of readings or wish to find the tool closest to you. Using tools closest to your location reduces non-Internet Service Provider-related low readings from nodes between your ISP and the test.

    • 4

Compare the speed test results. T1 offers 1.5 Mbps upload and download speed. If the measurements drops well under that threshold for megabytes per second, you may wish to talk to your provider.
