Instructions

    • 1

Open the driver's side door of the 1969 GM auto. Look on the side of the driver's door for a square metal stamp riveted to the inside of the door.

    • 2

Locate the line on the stamp called VIN. Write this number down. It will be a combination of alpha-numeric symbols.

    • 3

Cross reference this number with the VIN guidebook or online website. Get the information based on the number. For example, on the Camaro's made between 1967 and 1969, the third number in the VIN represented the engine size, and the sixth number was the year of production. For example, "7" meant a 1967 vehicle, and a "9" referred to a 1969 vehicle.

    • 4

Look for the first letter in the VIN alpha-numeric code. Use this to identify the plant at which the 1969 GM auto was made. For example, an "L" indicates it was made in Van Nuys, California, and an "N" means it was produced in a Norwood, Ohio plant.
