How to Use the Canon Rebel XT
The Canon Rebel XT is a mid-level DSLR camera. It offers the advantages of a digital camera, such as instant review and interchangeable lenses, but without the high price tag of a professional model. Canon designed several features into the XT to make shooting as simple as possible. Most of the settings can be adjusted by the fully automatic mode, which will free you to focus on the composition of the image instead of the exposure.

Insert a fully charged battery into the battery slot by pulling the tab and swinging the cover open. You can charge a battery using the included AC adapter. Close the cover.

Insert the memory card by pushing the cover outward, then swinging it open. Gently press the memory card into the camera until the eject button pops up. Close the cover.

Attach a lens to the camera if one is not already. Gently rotate the attachment end of the lens inside the camera until it clicks into place.

Turn on the camera by flipping the switch on top.
Taking Photos

Set the camera to fully automatic mode by turning the dial on top of the camera to the rounded rectangle. You may also use another mode you are more familiar with.

Aim the camera at the subject and press the shutter button halfway down to gain focus. If necessary, the camera's flash will pop up.

Press the shutter button fully to take the photo. You can review it briefly on the LCD display.
Viewing and Deleting Photos

Press the Play button, which has an icon of a triangle, on the back of the camera to enter viewing mode. The most recent image will be displayed on the LCD.

Use the left and right arrow buttons to navigate the photos as they were taken. Use the zoom in and zoom out button, which are on the back of the camera near the top right, to show multiple images on screen or zoom into part of an image.

Press the "Delete" button, which has an icon of a trash can, to present the delete option. Highlight "Erase" and press "Set" to delete the image. A deleted image can not be recovered.

Press the "Play" button or the shutter button halfway to return to shooting mode.
