How to View Chkdsk Results

Chkdsk is a Windows-based computer program that is native to the operating system. Chkdsk will scan the hard drive as well as the files installed on the drive for errors in the drive's file system and corrupted files. To review the results of a Chkdsk scan, you only need to wait for the scan to complete, as they are automatically displayed in the main utility window.

Instructions

    • 1

      Click "Start."

    • 2

Type "CHKDSK" into the small box at the bottom of the "Start" menu labeled "Search."

    • 3

Click the icon for "Chkdsk" to run the utility. Chkdsk will immediately begin to scan your hard drive. The time this process takes to complete varies as it depends on a number of factors, including the speed of your processor, the data transfer speed of your hard drive and the overall size of the drive. When the utility completes its scan, the results will be displayed in the window that is currently open on the screen.
